Employment Law

The Risk Managers Advisory Committee is presenting a liability workshop on Employment Law. New programs, new laws, court cases, and new trends continue to impact human resources in the community center world. This workshop will examine emerging issues such as the status of marijuana use and its implications in the workplace, non-binary staff, arbitration, privacy, and open records. New developments in FLSA regarding independent contractors, EEOC issues, subpoenas, and the nexus between ADA and FMLA will also be explored.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This workshop will present the latest developments in employment law and issues affecting all center Human Resources professionals, Executive Directors, General Counsels, Chief Operating Officers, and anyone who manages people at their center.

The registration fee is:

  • $75 for each representative of centers that are members of the Fund
  • $375 for each representative of centers that are not members of the Fund.

Hotel Reservations

The deadline for reservations at the discounted rate (single $139) is Tuesday, December 13, 2023. After that, rooms and rates are based on availability. Any special accommodation requirements should be addressed with the hotel when making room reservations.

The workshop will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude by 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023. Full breakfast and lunch are included. Breakfast will begin at 7:00 a.m.

Continuing Education Credit

Continuing education credits will be offered for Texas State Board of Examiners of Social Workers, Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, and Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Workshop Materials

A Workbook will be available for download prior to the workshop. All registrants will receive an email from the Fund closer to the date of the workshop with a link to download a digital version. Hard copies can be provided upon request.
